Population Displacement
The Shuikou Hydroelectric Project successfully managed the relocation of over 74 000 people displaced by dam inundation.  Planning for resettlement occurred over six years and the program included elements to maintain social conditions and distribution of funding for new infrastructure.  Average per capita income increased in the three to seven years after resettlement.

Overview

The Shuikou hydropower project is the largest in the East China region with an installed generating capacity of 1400 MW. The project was approved in 1985, construction began in 1987 and resettlement commenced the following year.
