Overview
Situated on the Nakatsu River within 50km of central Tokyo, Japan, the Miyagase Dam Development Project was announced in 1969 to address issues of flood management and water dependant development resulting from rapid post-war urbanization of areas in and around the Sagami River basin. In addition, the dam was intended to improve the river environment, provide a potable water supply and generate hydropower.

The dam is a 156m gravity-type concrete structure with a crest length of 400m. Construction commenced in November 1987, with excavation completed in the first half of 1991 and the remainder of the project completed in November 1994. The dam commenced operating in October 1995 and was later modified by the construction of the Doshi Conduit, commissioned in April 2001.
